The devastation following the horrific earthquake in Haiti is something that has touched the entire world, and I first want to take a moment to express the sadness that I know everyone is feeling right now.
I would like to join Mayor Nutter, Police Commissioner Ramsey and other city leaders who have pledged their support to help in the relief efforts. Please join me as I pray for the unknown numbers of people who lost their lives in the earthquake, the countless family members grieving their loss, and the hundreds of thousands of people who are trying to recover from the destruction.
This is a just a reminder of the different agencies out there who are helping with the relief effort, and who desperately need your help. The American Red Cross says the best and most effective way to help with relief is with a cash donation. Those donations can be made on line at www.redcrossphilly.org; also you can donate $10 via your cell phone by texting “HAITI” to “90999”.
The Salvation Army is also helping, you can make donations on their website www.salvationarmy.com and you can also use your cell phone and donate $10 by texting “HAITI” to 52000.
Together we can make a difference, and every little bit does in deed help.
