Zachary Smith is Found Guilty of Shooting his 15 Year old Cousin in the Head

Philadelphia, March 11, 2010:   Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner today convicted 20 year old Zachary Smith on third degree murder charges for the death of Smith’s 15 year old cousin.  Smith shot Kasey Chambers in the head on November 10, 2008 while the two were sitting in a car on the 2500 block of S. 59th street.  While family members of Kasey Chambers believe the shooting was an accident, they still wanted Smith to serve time for his crime, and were very pleased with this verdict.

“While there are no clear winners in a case like this, where a man accidentally kills his cousin,” says District Attorney Seth Williams.  “ADA Debra Naish has helped bring some sense of justice to the victim’s family.”

Zachary Smith will be sentenced on May 13, 2010 in courtroom 1105 at the CJC.
