Corbin Thomas is Convicted of his Wife’s Murder

Philadelphia,  April 16, 2010:  It took a jury less than an hour of deliberating to find 46 year old Corbin Thomas guilty of First Degree Murder.    Thomas was convicted of hiring a contract killer to murder his wife Hope Thomas on November 14, 1995.  Hope Thomas was gunned down in her Cedarbrook rowhome while her daughter, who was 7 at the time, was tied up in another room.  Corbin Thomas was charged with hiring a hit man because he suspected his wife was about to talk to federal authorities about his drug trafficking and money laundering business.   Shortly after Hope Thomas’ murder Corbin Thomas fled the country.  He was extradited back to the United States in 2002 from England in exchange for the District Attorney’s Office agreeing not to seek the death penalty in the case.  With the First Degree Murder conviction Thomas was sentenced to mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole.  He was already serving a 35 year prison sentence on federal drug charges.

“This is a victory for the entire city of Philadelphia,” says District Attorney Seth Williams.  “With the pervasive ‘don’t snitch’ atmosphere we’re dealing with right now, this sends a serious message.  If you take any measure to try and stop a criminal investigation, the District Attorney’s office will come after you.  ADA Gail Fairman did an excellent job showing the jury how Corbin Thomas had his wife killed in her own home without a thought of his young daughter’s well being.  And thanks to her hard work Thomas will be behind bars for the rest of his life.”
