Philadelphia, May 12, 2010: A jury today sentenced 23 year old Angel Maldonado to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Maldonado, along with 25 year old Angelo Martinez, was convicted last Friday for two murders on a Kensington street in 2007. 31 year old Diana Patrick and 20 year old Raheem Haines were both shot several times by Maldonado after they asked him not to sell drugs in front of children on their street. Maldonado also seriously injured 32 year old Jennifer Patrick, Diana Patrick’s sister. Jennifer Patrick was able to identify Maldonado as the shooter and testified against him at the trial. Maldonado was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and other related offenses. Martinez was convicted of third-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault, and will be sentenced on June 3, 2010.
“ADA Beth McCaffery did an excellent job on this case,” says District Attorney Seth Williams. “The defendant avoided a sentence of death, but will be held accountable for his terrible crimes by spending the remainder of his life in prison.”
