Philadelphia, June 10, 2010: The Honorable Benjamin Lerner sentenced 17 year old Derrick Cook to 20 to 45 years in prison with 5 years consecutive probation today. Cook, who was 15 at the time of his crimes, pleaded guilty to Rape, Attempted Murder and other related charges. The defendant brutally attacked two women in Northern Liberties in 2008. The first victim was pulled into an alleyway raped and beaten with a rock in August 2008. The second victim was a neighbor of the defendant who paid him money to do odd jobs around her home. Cook sexually assaulted the victim and stabbed her repeatedly; she still has not physically recovered from the attack.
“ADA Namratha Ravikant did a great job with this case,” says District Attorney Seth Williams. “She helped get a brutal young man off the streets. This defendant violently attacked two women, one of them his own neighbor, at the young age of 15. While neither one of his victims will ever be the same again, hopefully this verdict will give them some sense of justice.”
