Philadelphia, July 30, 2010: Today District Attorney Seth Williams announced that Philadelphia Police Officer Kenneth Crockett has been charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property, both misdemeanor charges. The 56 year old officer, who has been with the department since 1984, is accused of stealing $825.00 from the safe at Pat’s Café during a burglary investigation on Tuesday, July 27, 2010.
It is alleged that Crockett along with two other officers responded around 4:00 am to a burglary report at an auto body shop on the 4600 block of Castor Avenue. Upon arrival they discovered that the initial burglary report was unfounded, but they did notice that the business next door, Pat’s Café, appeared to have been disturbed. According to the bar’s security video all while the other two officers investigated the property Officer Crockett removed money from the safe. The other two officers were not aware of Officer Crockett’s actions and have been cleared of any wrong doing.
