Commonwealth v. William Haviland

Philadelphia— Former Police Officer William Haviland turned himself in to police on DUI and other related charges this morning.  Haviland, an officer out of the 26th district, is accused of drinking while on the job last year.  On November 7, 2010, Haviland was seen in uniform drinking at a bar in the 15th district when he got into an argument with another patron and left the establishment driving his patrol car. Haviland was on patrol duty at the time. Tests showed Haviland’s blood alcohol level (BAC) was .223 %, which is almost three times the legal limit of .08%.

 William Haviland is charged with DUI, Theft and other related offenses. Haviland had been a police officer for 7 years. He was suspended with intent to dismiss by the Philadelphia Police Department in November and is no longer on the job.  ADA Irina Ehrlich is specially assigned to this case.
