March 16, 2011: Commonwealth v. Lawrence Peel: 30 year old Lawrence Peel pleaded guilty in open court today to Aggravated Assault, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Firearms charges and other related offenses for the 2009 shooting of Philadelphia Police Officer Ashley Hoggard. Officer Hoggard and his partner were responding to the scene of a shooting on June 14, 2009 near Park and Somerset streets when he was hit. The bullet struck Officer Hoggard under his bullet proof vest in his shoulder, and that bullet is still lodged in Officer Hoggard’s body. Peel will be sentenced on May 12, 2011 in courtroom 602; he faces a maximum of 147 years in prison. ADA Mark Levenberg successfully prosecuted this case.
