Recent Verdicts and Sentences

June 15, 2011: Commonwealth v. Christopher Luciano:  23 year old Christopher Luciano was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison by the Honorable Lillian Ransom today.  Luciano along with Sean Alivera, both formerPhiladelphia police officers, pleaded guilty in April to Narcotics, Robbery, Conspiracy and Kidnapping for Ransom charges.  The former officers were both caught in an undercover drug sting conducted by the District Attorney’s Office, thePhiladelphia police department’s Internal Affairs unit and the state Attorney General’s office on October 4, 2010.  Luciano was also sentenced to serve seven years probation following his prison time.  ADA Erica Wilson successfully prosecuted this case.

June 15, 2011: Commonwealth v. Sean Alivera:  31 year old Sean Alivera was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison by the Honorable Lillian Ransom today.  Alivera along with Christopher Luciano, both formerPhiladelphia police officers, pleaded guilty in April to Narcotics, Robbery, Conspiracy and Kidnapping for Ransom charges.  The former officers were both caught in an undercover drug sting conducted by the District Attorney’s Office, thePhiladelphia police department’s Internal Affairs unit and the state Attorney General’s office on October 4, 2010.  Alivera was also sentenced to serve five years probation following his prison time.  ADA Erica Wilson successfully prosecuted this case.

 June 13, 2011: Commonwealth v. Joseph Holmes:  28 year old Joseph Holmes was found guilty of First Degree Murder and Possession of an Instrument of Crime charges by a jury today.  Holmes was charged with the 2008 murder of 25 year old Donovan Weary.  The victim was shot two times in the head on the 7100 block ofOgontz Ave.  His murder went unsolved until November of 2009 when Joseph Holmes girlfriend came forward and told police that she had witnessed the murder.  Holmes brother Joshua was also present at the time of the murder.  Joseph Holmes is scheduled to be sentenced on August 10, 2011 in courtroom 1108.  ADA Beth McCaffery successfully prosecuted this case.

 June 13, 2011: Commonwealth v. Joshua Holmes:  21 year old Joshua Holmes was convicted of Third Degree Murder by a jury today.  Holmes was present in 2008 when his brother Joseph Holmes shot and killed 25 year old Donovan Weary.  Weary’s murder went unsolved until 2009 when Joseph Holmes’ girlfriend notified police that she had witnessed the murder.  Joshua Holmes is scheduled to be sentenced on August 10, 2011 in courtroom 1108.  ADA Beth McCaffery successfully prosecuted this case.
