North Philadelphia Man Charged with Starving His Elderly Father to Death


March 15, 2012:  The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has charged 57 year old Thomas Hauck with Third Degree Murder, Involuntary Manslaughter, Felony Theft, and Abuse of a Corpse charges for the 2011 death of his father. 

82 year old Leonard Hauck was found dead in his Kirkwood Road home in North Philadelphia on December 26, 2011 by paramedics.  They were originally called to the house to administer care to Mr. Hauck’s wife, but subsequently found Mr. Hauck’s body in the basement of the home.   At that time Thomas Hauck informed them that his father had died several days before and he didn’t know what to do with the body.  The victim was severely malnourished, and at the time of his death Leonard Hauck was 5 foot 7 inches tall and weighed only 79 pounds. 

It was also discovered that Mr. Hauck’s wife was also malnourished.  Thomas Hauck is facing Recklessly Endangering the Welfare of Another Person charges for the treatment of his mother.

Thomas Hauck was arrested this morning and is currently being processed by the Philadelphia Police Department.
