August 6, 2012, Commonwealth v. Christian Hall: After pleading guilty to numerous counts of straw purchasing firearms on May 23, 2012, 24 year old Christian Hall was sentenced today by the Honorable Ellen Ceisler to 2 to 5 years of in prison, followed by 2 years probation. From April to August of 2011, Hall straw purchased 4 handguns and an AK-47 for criminals in the Olney section of the city. One of the guns was recovered from the scene of a shooting in Frankford that occurred on February 22, 2012. The rest of the guns remain at large.
Despite Hall’s complete lack of a prior record and extensive family support, the court recognized the danger he was to the city by imposing the strong sentence today. “The bloodshed that could result from these weapons is unknown at this point,” said Judge Ceisler. “This kind of crime will not be tolerated.”
Representatives from the Frankford Town Watch, CeaseFirePA, and individuals from the city at large attended today’s sentencing to bring attention to the repetitive nature of the defendant’s criminal conduct and the need to fashion a sentence that would serve as a strong deterrent to other potential straw purchasers. ADA Andrew Wellbrock of the GVTF successfully prosecuted this case.
