October 31, 2013: 32 year old Lakisha Howard was arrested today and charged with Theft by Deception, Insurance Fraud, Criminal Conspiracy and False Reports by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Detectives from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit (IFU) began to investigate Lakisha Howard after receiving a referral from the Philadelphia Major Crimes Auto Squad. Major Crimes Auto Squad officers were performing a routine check on vehicles recently dropped off at Clearfield Recycling when they discovered that one of the cars had been reported stolen. Detectives then retrieved the
Philadelphia Police Department Vehicle Theft Report which was filed by Lakisha Howard. The report indicated that Howard had parked her 2001 Toyota on August 16 and upon her return on August 19 she discovered the vehicle was missing. Howard also reported this theft to Nationwide Insurance Company, who stated that they received this claim on August 19, 2013 and paid Howard over twenty-five hundred dollars for this loss. Detectives interviewed the tow truck driver who confirmed that he had brought the 2001 Toyota to Clearfield Recycling on August 13, 2013 and the recycling plant produced a sales receipt for the Toyota which was printed on the same date.
Detectives arrested Lakisha Howard on October 31, 2013 for Theft by Deception, Insurance Fraud, Criminal Conspiracy and False Reports. She is next scheduled to appear in Philadelphia Municipal Court for a status listing on November 12, 2013.
