PHILADELPHIA (December 2, 2015) – Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams today announced that Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Linda Montag has been named the 2015 Prosecutor of the Year by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.
“ADA Linda Montag, you’re one of this office’s shining stars and on behalf of the 600 men and women of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office I’d like to thank you for your hard work, constant smile and for making our Insurance Fraud Unit one of the most successful in the nation,” said District Attorney Seth Williams. “You do amazing work; many congratulations.”
Montag was nominated by Thomas Donahue, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority after successfully investigating a complicated, seven year, slip-and-fall scheme case that led to the conviction of 47 defendants for defrauding 21 insurers out of more than $400,000.
“This award is such an honor and I’m truly humbled,” said Assistant District Attorney Linda Montag. “But, the outcome of this case and the 2015 Prosecutor of the Year award is not something that I did alone. “I’m very privileged to have been able to work with a great team at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, the detectives and police officers who made this case’s prosecution a success, the grand jury who relentlessly worked on the case, and finally for the support from the Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority and the insurance companies I’ve worked with. So to you all, I send lots of thanks and even more appreciation.”
“Linda Montag took down a major insurance-fraud ring that often victimized honest Philadelphia homeowners with fake slip-and-fall injury claims,” said Dennis Jay, Executive Director of the Coalition. “The convictions took incredibly long hours and great courtroom skill. Montag and her team set a high standard for combatting insurance fraud and reducing this crime’s costs for consumers.”
ADA Montag graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School, has her Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from Rosemont College, a Master’s Degree from West Chester University and attended Temple University’s Beasley School of Law. ADA Montag has been a prosecutor in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office since 2002. She served in the office’s Trial Division and has spent the last six years specially assigned to the Insurance Fraud Unit. Linda lives in the Northeast section of the city with her family.
