Philadelphia – Detectives from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit arrested Rhonda Harris after receiving a referral from Claims Management, Inc., which insures Wal-Mart. On September 11, 2012, Rhonda Harris alleged that she injured her left foot when she slipped and fell inside of the Wal-Mart located at 1675 S. Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia. Harris retained an attorney to represent her in a personal injury lawsuit against the store. To further her claim, Harris also treated with a doctor for her alleged injuries and she incurred medical bills of sixty-six hundred dollars.
Video surveillance footage from the Walmart indicates that Harris orchestrated her own fall. The footage shows Harris entering the store and then talking with another woman in the hair aisle. After standing in the aisle for a period of time, Harris picks up a bottle from the shelf and loosens the cap. The footage later shows Harris spilling the liquid from the bottle on the floor. Harris later falls in the exact area where she spilled the liquid. Harris was arrested on May 2, 2016 for staging a slip and fall accident inside of the Walmart in an effort to file a fraudulent personal injury lawsuit. Harris was charged with Attempted Theft by Deception, Insurance Fraud and Unsworn Falsifying. She is next scheduled to appear in Philadelphia Municipal Court on June 10, 2016 for a status listing.
